Connections Program (FHS Room C325)

Connections is a peer mentorship program involving Franklin High mentors and Middle School mentees.

Student mentors are comprised of up to 20 high school sophomores, juniors and seniors and engage with up to 40 middle school students as peer mentors. Mentors are selected through a vigorous interview process and are responsible for up to two mentees each. The program is developed through Princeton Learning Center and is a written curriculum outlining activities for the mentees to engage in weekly as well as a once a month mentor/mentee activity. Activities are peer-based, interactive and advanced social and emotional learning. Group meetings of 36-48 students will be held weekly afterschool and students participate in team-building activities and focus on a variety of issues to enhance school transitions, prevent bullying, developing resistance skills and also to develop resiliency. Additionally, they engage in activities through the We’re Not Buying it 2.0 curriculum, community service projects and leadership activities throughout the school.

Students participate in a week-long summer camp with team-building and substance abuse awareness activities and continue throughout the year with meetings 1-2 times per month. Through school and community service projects, students will increase community awareness about substance use and abuse-related issues. Students will also promote Natural High alternatives and being Above the Influence with a minimum of 2 community/school outreach projects. Program participants will be empowered to conduct a school announcement campaign and tabling opportunities during lunch periods and other events at school. When possible, students will also support the Parents Who Host, Lose the Most campaign and Talk-They Listen to increase adult awareness of social host laws. Promotional items and fact cards will be distributed at afterschool school prevention, cultural and sports events.
